Jephthah’s mistake

Then the Spirit of the Lord came on Jephthah......

And Jephthah made a vow to the Lord : ‘If you give the Ammonites into my hands, whatever comes out of the door of my house to meet me when I return in triumph from the Ammonites will be the Lord ’s, and I will sacrifice it as a burnt offering.’ Then Jephthah went over to fight the Ammonites, and the Lord gave them into his hands...... When Jephthah returned to his home in Mizpah, who should come out to meet him but his daughter, dancing to the sound of tambourines! She was an only child. Except for her he had neither son nor daughter. When he saw her, he tore his clothes and cried, ‘Oh no, my daughter! You have brought me down and I am devastated. I have made a vow to the Lord that I cannot break.’ “

Judges 11:30‭-‬35 NIVUK

"The path to hell is pathed with good intentions"

If you are a follower of Jesus you are filled and sealed with His Spirit.

Just because we are filled with the Spirit of God doesn't mean we will always know his will.

Jephthah clearly didn't know scripture as this act was forbidden in the Torah.

Do you want to know God will for your life?

Firstly know what scripture says about him.

Secondly, be transformed by the renewing of your mind through the Holy Spirit and discipline.

Then you can discern what God's will his, his good perfect and please willing.

And pray that if you get it wrong even then that he will redeem your mistakes.
